Southern Utah Markers & Monuments

There are more historical markers and monuments throughout the State of Utah. The Utah Historical Society has assembled a database with the names, locations, and photos of markers located throughout Utah. The database is a map that is fully searchable by location, theme, and keyword.

Utah Markers & Monuments

Atkinville Camp Marker in SunRiver. Established in 2004 by the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, the plaque honors the legacy of the Atkins family, the first pioneer residents of the area. The marker was created by descendants of Utah pioneers living in SunRiver.

Discovery of Zion Canyon DUP Marker #42 in Springdale. The marker commemorates Nephi Johnson's 1858 exploration of Zion Canyon, the naming of the area by Isaac Buhannin, and the contributions of William Heaps in building homes for early settlers.

The Dixie Pioneers DUP Marker commemorates the pioneers sent by Brigham Young to colonize the area. Established in 1852 with Fort Harmony and expanded after successful cotton farming experiments, over 300 families settled in St. George and Washington County in late 1861.

Monument Plaza in front of the Washington City Museum at 25 E. Telegraph Road, featuring bronze statues and relief sculptures by sculptor Jerry Anderson. The artworks commemorate the prominent pioneers of Washington, UT who were part of the Cotton Mission.
